Girls' Education

When a girl stays in school, a family moves forward

A girl who continues her education learns more than subjects. She learns to ask questions, to make decisions and to believe that her voice counts. Those habits stay with her long after the final exam.

When a girl can finish school and consider college or a career, she can support herself and plan her own future. That independence benefits her family and, in time, the wider community.

This is why we say that one girl empowered today creates a stronger society tomorrow. Every fee that keeps her in the classroom, every mentor who believes in her and every conversation about her future is an investment that reaches well beyond one student.

Raising a family alone: the weight one parent carries

Many children face educational and emotional challenges after the loss of a parent, family separation, or other circumstances that leave one parent carrying the responsibility of raising a family alone.

In such homes, money is stretched across food, rent and fees. When choices have to be made, a girl's education can be the first thing to be put aside, not because she is valued less but because the household is under pressure.

Support does not have to be large to matter. Help with fees and learning materials, a mentor to talk to and guidance about what comes next can let a family keep a daughter in school while the parent focuses on keeping the household going.

Five ways you can help a girl continue her education

Give financially. A contribution of any size supports educational assistance, scholarships, mentoring and career guidance.

Mentor a student. Many girls simply need an adult who believes in them and asks what they want to become.

Share what you know. If you work in a profession, a conversation about your career can open a young person's eyes to possibilities she had not considered.

Spread the word. Tell teachers, headmasters and community workers about the Foundation so that girls who need support can reach us.

Partner with us. Companies and organisations can work with us to support girls' education through CSR.
